Ann Lewis, Champion Ally Award
For decades, Ann has been a leading progressive voice in the pro-Israel and feminist movements, and shares A Wider Bridge’s call to “refuse to choose” between Israel and progressive causes, including LGBTQ rights. She has been an early supporter of the LGBTQ community, she served as Political Director of the DNC and White House Communications Director for President Bill Clinton. Ann continues to be one of the leading voices supporting Israel in the Women’s March, and serves on the national board of Zioness. Thanks to Ann’s leadership, we are building much needed bridges between our two communities, at the grassroots and national levels.
Shlomo Ashkinazy, LGBTQ Trailblazer Award
Shlomo has been an LGBTQ trailblazer for decades, serving on the founding boards of many of New York’s premier LGBTQ institutions such as The Center, Stonewall Democrats, the Hetrick Martin Institutite, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, the Harvey Milk High School and is the current Board Chair of Eshel. Shlomo also currently serves on the board of the Stonewall Democrats and the LGBTQ Advisory Board to the Police Commissioner. He has been a leading voice in both the LGBTQ and Jewish communitites fighting for full inclusion of LGBTQ folks, and particularly LGBTQ religious Jews. Aside from all the amazing work he has done in the U.S., he also participated in one of the first LGBTQ protests in Israel. Shlomo’s leadership has enabled many LGBTQ organizations and leaders in New York to stay connected to Israel and support her LGBTQ community.
